Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, a member of the House agriculture, budget and science committees, said he was backing the Florida senator. He is at least the third of the Michigan House delegation’s nine Republicans to endorse a presidential candidate.
“Marco Rubio is a generational leader who has a bold vision for creating jobs in the 21st century, and I am proud to endorse him for president,” Moolenaar said in a statement. “Marco’s plan for a New American Economy is exactly what Michigan and our country needs, and I will do everything I can to help elect him.”
Moolenaar attended Rubio’s Aug. 20 speech to the Detroit Economic Club and indicated then he was leaning toward endorsing the Cuban-American Republican.
He also attended a Rubio campaign event Saturday during the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference at Mackinac Island’s Yankee Rebel Tavern.
